An Afternoon Exploring Florence
After stopping back at our apartment for lunch, we spent the afternoon beginning to explore Florence. We started by touring the San Marco Monastery - it was really interesting to see the monks' cells - completely bare except for a religious painting on the wall. Next, we to the San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapel. I've been reading Irving Stone's biographical novel on Michaelangelo, The Agony and the Ecstasy. I've really been enjoying it and have learned all about the Medici family. So it was really fun to see the Medici Chapel that also had a lot of sculpture done by Michaelangelo. Outside the San Lorenzo, there are all kinds of "shopping opportunities." I had no idea how many people associate Florence with shopping as well as art!
