Even after our late night, we got up early to hike the Cinque Terre. The Cinque Terre is 5 towns that are built into the side of the cliffs on the Italian portion of the Mediterranean Sea. You can hike on a trail between the 5 towns - once you get to the towns, you can hike up the very steep hills into the towns themselves. While tourists have discovered the Cinque Terre, the towns are still inhabited by natives that live just as people have for years - terrace farming, fishing, hanging out their laundry etc. It is absolutely spectacular!
We left at about 9 am and hiked all day. The final town has a great beach that was fun to go to after walking in the hot sun. What made the day extra special was that our good friends Kevin and Kris joined us, and will now travel onto Florence with us. So the 6 of us had a wonderful day topped off with dinner in a restaurant. The pictures don't do the scenery justice, but hopefully you can get a little idea of what a beautiful part of the world this special place is!
