Aosta looked like I imagined European cities to be - it had narrow streets, balconies with flower boxes, cobble stone streets and beautiful carved wooden doors.
We had a chance to see our first cathedral, too - so unbelievably ornate. It was originally built in the 11th century - various parts of it were added over the years.
Finally, the cross that Greg is standing next to in the center of Via Croix de Ville was erected to commemorate the expulsion of the Lutherans from Aosata in the 16th century. The cross was restored in 1741 and rebuilt a hundred years later. After seeing the Catholic cathedral, it makes me understand even more clearly how radical Martin Lutheran was in his rejection of the Catholic church excesses.
